A BRIEF HISTORY

Founded in 1986, Acorn Engineering became involved in Narrowboat electrical systems, manufacturing the Kestrel alternator controller. Natural growth saw the company activity expand into the supply of Narrowboat equipment in general, and now we have the largest Retail catalogue for narrowboat equipment in the UK.

We still make the Kestrel 90 alternator controller, also digital ammeters and voltmeters, and boat control panels in a range of standard designs, or bespoke.

In addition, Peter Hopley is a Marine Surveyor, offering pre-purchase or hull condition surveys, and is also authorised to carry out Boat Safety inspections and issue Boat Safety certificates. He is also currently Corgi registered to undertake Gas work in Boats.

The Company is located in Hyde, which although is technically in Cheshire, in reality it is in the eastern part of Greater Manchester.

FROM THE NORTH, SOUTH or WEST approach using the M60 motorway. Leave the M60 at Junction 24, and join the M67 eastbound. Exit the M67 at Junction 3, Hyde. At the top of the slip bear left onto CLARK WAY. Go to the second lights and turn right into NEWTON STREET then immediately left into DUKINFIELD ROAD. BROADWAY is on the left about 3/4mile along Dukinfield Road. Warble Wharf is easy to find on Broadway, with ample parking.

FROM THE EAST approach along the M67 mtorway, leaving at Junction 3, Hyde. At the top of the slip bear right onto CLARK WAY. Go to the third lights and turn right into NEWTON STREET then immediately left into DUKINFIELD ROAD. BROADWAY is on the left about 3/4mile along Dukinfield Road. Warble Wharf is easy to find on Broadway, with ample parking.

We have talked to thousands of customers over the years, and a great many have called to see us at our old premises in Denton, and already many have called here at Warble Wharf. Whilst we can never hope to meet every one of our customers face to face, there is no reason why you should not see and know who you are talking too! The Chandlery shop is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. Outside these hours the office is contactable 9am to 5pm, but the phone may be on divert to Peter's mobile.
