Carriage Charges and Conditions of Carriage

POSTAGE AND PACKING COSTS
Our post and packing charges are based on a sliding scale, based on order value. For the majority of goods, this system works well and is fair to all. Goods are normally despatched by Letter Post, Parcelforce or a Carrier, using standard economy services, which are normally 2-3 day delivery. The service used depends upon a number of factors such as number of parcels in the consignment, weight, size etc. If customers require next day delivery of larger parcels or consignments (generally anything over 2kg), we can send by Parcelforce 24, or a carrier, but there is a minimum charge of £15.00 when this is requested. Delivery times are NOT GUARANTEED by us under any circumstances as once the goods leave our premises they are outside our control.

There are some products whose value is high, but whose size and weight is minimal, and can be sent for less than the charge calculated by our website! Equally, very small orders can often be sent at minimal cost. If you are ordering such goods, please be assured we will, at our own discretion, override the website and lower the postage costs accordingly if we feel it is appropriate to do so.

CARRIAGE SURCHARGED ITEMS
Some items are identified on the web pages as subject to carriage surcharge, due to their exceptional weight, size or bulk. Unfortunately the web site cannot display these surcharges. PLEASE ASK FOR A QUOTATION if you select surcharged items and need to know the cost beforehand otherwise we will automatically adjust the carriage cost upwards to suit. We always endeavor to keep carriage costs as resonable as possible.

EXCEPTIONAL DESTINATIONS
Despatches overseas, including Southern Ireland, and to Northern Ireland, the Channel Isles, Scottish Islands and Highlands, and the Isle of Wight, are subject to a carriage surcharge. Again, the web site cannot display these surcharges so PLEASE ASK FOR A QUOATATION if you need to know the cost beforehand otherwise we will automatically adjust the carriage cost upwards to suit.

ITEMS NOT AVAILABLE BY MAIL ORDER
A few items are not available by mail order as they are outside the scope of most carriers.

GOODS MAY BE COLLECTED FROM OUR SHOWROOM THEREBY ELIMINATING ANY CARRIAGE CHARGES, BUT PLEASE PHONE BEFORE VISITING US TO ENSURE WE HAVE THE ITEMS IN STOCK.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT GOODS SUCH AS COOKERS, FRIDGES, BATHS, ALDE BOILERS AND SOLID FUEL STOVES BE COLLECTED, TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE IN TRANSIT.

DAMAGE IN TRANSIT – PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!!

‘White goods’ such as the larger cookers, fridges, baths, Alde boilers and Solid Fuel Stoves, are particularly at risk of damage in transit, although we go to great lengths to pack such goods extra carefully. This is why we recommend above that you collect such items. If you require us to send you such items by carrier, IT IS AT YOUR RISK.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE GOODS UPON RECEIPT FOR DAMAGE IN TRANSIT. YOU, OR ANYONE ACTING ON YOUR BEHALF, MUST ONLY SIGN FOR GOODS AS ‘RECEIVED IN GOOD CONDITION’ WHEN SATISFIED THEY HAVE BEEN RECEIVED FREE OF DAMAGE IN TRANSIT. If you think there may have been damage in transit, because for instance the packaging shows signs of being dropped, crushed, trampled, torn, impacted or misshapen, then UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST YOU GIVE A ‘CLEAN’ SIGNATURE on the consignment note. Under these conditions you must sign ‘RECEIVED DAMAGED’ and if the carrier asks, you must state on the consignment note the nature of the damage you perceive.

If you feel that you have not been given adequate opportunity to check the goods, please strike out the words ‘received in good condition’ and write in ‘not checked’.

If you sign for goods with a ‘clean’ signature, you are acknowledging receipt free of damage, and WE WILL NOT THEN AFTERWARDS ENTERTAIN ANY COMPLAINT THAT THE GOODS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED IN TRANSIT, as your signature waives our right to compensation under the carriers insurance.

Please note that the above refers to ‘Damage in Transit’ only, ie damage caused by the carrier mishandling the goods – it has no bearing on your rights in the case of faulty goods, which is an entirely different matter. We will always replace goods, which have manufacturing defects or are otherwise faulty on despatch.

The kind of damage we have known occur in transit is such as
Baths with corners cracked or split and pieces missing: Solid fuel stoves with broken glass, or cracked cast iron parts: Cookers with dented steelwork or broken glass doors: Fridges with dented panels. Fairly obviously we would never despatch goods with any of these type of faults, so if we receive any complaints of this type of damage, it will always be regarded by us as ‘damage in transit’ and subject to the above conditions.
